motor controllers that manage the magnetic field of
AC Induction Motors. The controller is a self-contained,
solid-state device that mounts between the existing motor
starter and the AC motor. It provides a true ramp-type
soft-start and a unique energy saving feature that
automatically and continuously updates the motor’s
magnetic field. This update reduces energy
consumption to only the level needed to perform the work.
Depending on applications, the Performance Controller can

- Simply stated: most AC
Induction Motors waste energy. In the United States
alone, there are over a billion AC motors in operation
which consume about 60% of the total electricity used,
and about 70% of all electricity used in industrial
applications. Moreover, this inefficiency is exacerbated
when the workload of a motor is less than full.
Statistics compiled by the Electrical
Power Research Institute (EPRI) indicate that 60% of
all motors are being operated at 60% or less of the work
load for which they were designed. Under such
conditions, and in certain applications, AC motors can
waste as much as 70% of the electrical energy they
consume. And energy costs are rising. Fortunately
there's good news - the Performance Controller. A

- The Performance Controller
is available in a single-phase or in three-phase. The
single-phase unit is available in one size that
accommodates up to 40 amps at 240 volts. It can be
used on either 50Hz or 60Hz, as it automatically
senses voltage and frequency. The three-phase
controller is available from 1hp to 400hp up to 575
volts, 50 Hz or 60Hz. The Performance Controller
is designed to be used in
conjunction with a standard across-the-line starter.
It should be viewed as a new generation of motor
controllers that manage energy use according to
workload.
- The Performance Controller
completely controls the AC Induction Motor so it
always functions at its optimum efficiency. This
extends motor life and reduces stress and strain on
the motor and the drive train both electrically and
mechanically. It also soft-starts and protects the
motor against over-voltage. All of these functions are
performed electronically. State-of-the-art electronic
circuits constantly sense the work load of the motor.
When the actual work load of the motor is lower than
the rated load, the sensing circuits reduce the energy
being fed to the motor to the exact level the motor
needs. This has the effect of reducing motor energy
consumption. Solid-state circuits soft-start the motor
so that start-up current is reduced as much as 50% and
start-up torque is reduced proportionately. The
soft-start function is adjustable to the operator's
needs.
